Breaking News: Tinubu, Ribadu, Adeola escape death in Bauchi

A former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; the presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Mallam Nuhu ribadu; his running mate, Mr. Fola Adeola, and some other chieftains of the party on Tuesday escaped death after one of the aircraft in which they were travelling to Bauchi for a presidential rally crashlanded at Bauchi Airport.

A chartered airplane conveying Adeola and chieftains of the ACN, including its Deputy National Chairman, Boss Mustapha; and a former National Chairman of the All Nigeria

Peoples Party, Yusuf Alli, crashlanded due to non-clearance of the airport runway by airport authorities.

This was contained in a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Nuhu Ribadu Campaign Organisation, Ibrahim Modibbo.

The runway, which had been taken over by rams and goats, was not cleared, forcing

the pilot of Adeola‘s aircraft, with number 5BN-BNR to do a forced landing, damaging the aircraft in the process. The accident occurred at about noon.

Meanwhile, the second aircraft conveying Ribadu, Tinubu and some other party leaders had to hover in the air for about an hour for the runway to be cleared.

The General Manager, Public Affairs of the National Airspace Management Agency, Mr. Supo Atobatele, confirmed the incident, saying the crashlanding of Adeola‘s plane was caused by some rams that strayed onto the runway as its landing gear (tyres) made impact with the runway.

He said Tinubu‘s aircraft, which was following Adeola‘s plane, had to hover in the air for an hour as a result of the incident.
